Each semester, Fullerton College holds its Faculty Dance Concert. This semester, it's held May 8 - 9 at 8 p.m. at the Campus Theatre.
The concert features choreography from the faculty as well as performances by a few selected dance students. The genres of dance will include modern, jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, musical theater and afro-modern.
"[Dance] students are taught choreography from dance faculty and/or a guest artist," said Melanie Rosa, artistic director of the event, "which will be performed in the faculty dance concert."
Having been an instructor since 1999 and dancing for about 25 years, Rosa arrived at FC in 2005 and noticed the need for a faculty dance concert. In the fall semester of 2005, she held her first concert. From then on, as the activities director of the event, she watched it grow.
"We have a student audition and select student pieces to be performed in the Faculty Dance Concert along side the work of the faculty and guest artists," Rosa said of the concert process.
Rehearsals immediately begin at the start of the semester and conclude the night of the concert.
"The rehearsals are coming along and the dancers are doing great," Rosa said "In the beginning they do not know what they will be learning, but through the rehearsal process they learn the movement they will be required to perform."
With less than two weeks until the recital, the dancers are working diligently to finalize the routines that will be performed. Rosa suggests the dancers are close to performance level.
If you'd like to support the dance program, tickets for the recital are $10-15.
