College life is filled with a whirlwind of decisions to make, ranging from area of study to potential career path. The process can be daunting. Life journeys can change frequently or not exist at all.
For students struggling to find their calling in life, Road Trip Nation exists and is visiting the Fullerton College campus tomorrow, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The grassroots project started with three college friends, Mike Marriner, Brian McAllister and Nathan Gebhard, without a plan after graduation.
The three decided to load into an RV they borrowed from a parent and travel the country to interview people from all walks of life and careers, finding out what makes them passionate.
Upon returning, the trip became a movement, a Public Broadcasting System's documentary series, three books, an online community, a network of over 350 campuses and more than 4,000 road trips.
As a part of the Career and Life Planning Center's services, former roadies of RTN present videos of their time on the road and provide information about future tours and how to apply.
"The trips exists to inspire a generation to find out what they are passion about," said Jason Manion, RTN?tour director.?"It's a huge opportunity to learn and grow."
RTN is searching for teams to be a part of the Behind-The-Wheel series, traveling the country in the trademark green RV, as well as teams to embark on Indie trips, using student's choice of transportation to conduct interviews.
Each road team is supplied with RTN camera equipment and Grant money to assist in travel expenses.
"Take advantage of this opportunity now,"?said Janine Cirritos, coordinator of the Career and Life Planning Center. "And be exposed to all that's available."
Finding a passion in life is an important step for college students. According to the California Community College Career Development and Advisory Committee, 70 percent of students who have graduated with a degree are not working in a career related to their degree.
RTN offers a chance to speak with working professionals who are passionate about their careers and ask about the motivational behind the steps it took to pursue them.
"It's great, not many students have the opportunity to explore careers and see things outside of the Orange County bubble," said Darlene Dzul, a student.
The RTN RV will be parked in Staff Parking Lot A while roadies host a presentation in Room 224 from 3-4 p.m.
