Steven Smith - Yes on Prop 1A

Proposition 1A will raise taxes for the next three to four years in the hopes of fixing California's growing deficit.

The additional revenue gained from the tax increase will be placed in a 'special lock box' fund for times of economic hardship.

The extra tax revenue will net about $16 billion dollars for California's budget. Miss allocation is California's biggest hurdle.

Passing Proposition 1A would be a great step in making sure funds get allocated to the proper source instead of taking away when the budget doesn't balance.

Nothing at this time seems joyous, but somewhat grievous, while most individual will not enjoy the increase in taxes, they will enjoy the long-term benefits. Instead of education being cut and left to dry; there is now a safety net in place that helps circumvent the growing problem.

Proposition 1A would be a great step towards showing Californians that the state government supports education, as well as the world's.

John Andrews - No on 1A

It's hard not to see California is suffering through financial difficulties and that the state legislature has shown the Californian taxpayers they are unable to manage their money effectively. All of this is proven by California's budget deficits.

I am not in favor of raising taxes at all. The money that is left over in the rainy day fund will go to the pork projects of certain congressman.

I do not understand why people should have to pay more money; the state government should have to make some cuts on their end. The state is in tough times as it is and by forcing the people of the state of California to pay more money is downright wrong and does not make economic sense.

If you want to stimulate the economy leave the money in the people's pockets. The congressmen that signed agreements not to raise taxes should be ashamed of themselves.

I am not in favor of this proposition and I will be voting "No" on 1A come May 19.
