Welcome to the scholastic incarceration for those with middle class, low class and no class parents. Feel discouraged? Me too. Graduation, transferring, escape, or whatever you prefer to call it, is upon us.
I know what it's like. I've attended that cocktail party full of tweed-jacket clad, glasses-wearing university types; trying to hold my own in a discussion of advanced economics theory.
Look - college is college. We all know that degree or certificate is worthless in the real world, whether it says Fullerton Community or Princeton. We are all well aware of the dues we'll have to pay to get any practical experience in the job climate. Instead, focus on the success of getting farther from your parents' basement.
FC staff wants to see you succeed, if for no other reason than it makes them look good. The fact that they're community college instructors does not diminish their importance.
For some of us community college is our only chance for that two bucks more an hour; maybe you're the first in your family to make it this far, or maybe you're an international student who thinks a substandard education in America is better than a superior education in your native country. The point here is when you graduate the world gets tough and dull, so revel in the accomplishment.
