Snow fell in Fullerton Saturday night, although it occured inside the Plummer Auditorium during the Fullerton Civic Light Opera's rendition of the holiday classic, "White Christmas."
Specks of snowflake soap wafted down as the audience enjoyed the sweet surprise with a chuckle here and a giggle there.
Based on the 1954 film, Irving Berlin’s musical follows the story of private Davis, played by Dennis Kyle and captain Wallace played by Christopher Carothers.
The two war buddies work together as a singing duet in America after serving time in World War II.
Davis and Wallace decide to use their musical talent to help their former army general, John Herzog, after learning that his inn out in Pine Tree, Vermont is about to shut down from lack of business.
Once the musical duo meet the charming sister act of Betty (Jennifer Matthews) and Judy Haynes (Layne Baker), both pairs quickly fall in love.
The audience is easily won over by the warm-hearted nature of the characters, while the passion between Betty and Wallace is made believable by the great chemistry between the two actors.
Although there were a few opening night kinks in the vocal and choreography department, the evening was nonetheless at success.
Pleasure was expressed in the quality of the singing, dancers and orchestra, as it transported the audience to a late December wonderland filled with red velvet Santa outfits, jingle bells, snow covered
trees and holly wreaths.
Classics songs such as the “Ive Got My Love to Keep Me Warm” and of course “White Christmas”, a song that has become a traditional
song played during the holiday season, can be heard steadily from the first
note all the way until the curtain closes.
Running now through Nov. 1st, White Christmas is a must-see for the musical enthusiast, and
combines all the ingredients to put anyone in an early
holiday mood.
A special discount is available for students and
seniors. In addition, FCLO also offers a “student rush,” which offers tickets at half-price on the day of the performance.
