Everyone has that annoying relative that that no one wants around. For Jack Sadelstein (Adam Sandler), that relative is his twin sister Jill (also played by Sandler) in Jack and Jill.
In this holiday comedy, Jack, a well-known man in advertising, is bracing himself and his eccentric family for a Thanksgiving visit from his passive-aggressive and overly needy sister Jill. Despite the efforts of his loving and patient wife Erin (Katie Holmes) for him to get along with her, Jack watches helplessly as his entire home life is turned upside down by Jill's antics.
Sandler is known for some great Hollywood favorites, it's too bad this one is nothing but a flop. While most of his movies have been funny, this one appears to be trying too hard.
One of the biggest problems with this movie is the story. The plot itself is simple, almost too simple.
The plot is way too predictable, but sadly the story is the only problem. The biggest problems of the film come from the scenarios the filmed offers. The whole thing felt like a series of rejected Saturday Night Live sketches. It didn't have the flow of a movie at all to be quite honest.
It all seemed too familiar, like it was just another Sandler movie recycled. It offered nothing new or creative to set it apart.
The acting definitely didn't help the situation and left much to be desired. Again, it all came off as Sandler trying too hard, making him seem disconnected from BOTH characters (it was, at some points, hard to even believe Sandler as Jack rather than Sandler as Jill).
The one person who stood out and gave an halfway decent performance was Al Pacino, who made a cameo as a comedic version of himself. Still, it wasn't enough to save this disaster of a comedy.
With such a badly conceived plot and overused gags, it's no surprise that this movie gets fewer laughs than gags. This is a must miss movie.
