The story is the pretty standard , Earth is destroyed by an asteroid and gamers play as one of the special survivors who were placed in one of the Ark systems, which are basically cryogenically freezing tubes.
Being new to the world, you go around meeting people and doing them favors in exchange for money, weapons and other things you need to survive the wasteland.
The gameplay will remind you of games like "Fallout 3" and more recently, "Dead Island" in the sense that it's a shooter game with some Role Playing Game-like elements. You go around shooting pretty much everything that isn't in a town or safe area because they are probably going to be bad guys, mutants or monsters.
Every time you kill something they'll drop some loot for you to pick up. That's the biggest RPG element in the game.
There is also a driving aspect and it's fun. There are several different types of cars and each one has it's own upgrades you can compete in races or death match type events to gain new upgrades for your vehicle. The different upgrades for the vehicles range from weapons to suspension, tires and random decals.
The multiplayer isn't what you think it would be for a first person shooter. "Rage" has no typical FPS style shooting multiplayer.
Traveling in the game is a bit annoying. Whenever you have to go anywhere you have to travel by vehicle and if you're in a vehicle, you're going to have to shoot everything that comes your way.
It's all driving based, so it's a bit like "Twisted Metal."
There are two different types of multiplayer modes. One is the typical four-player death match where you drive around shooing your enemies. The other is a collect the most rally points type of game. It's fun, but you're going to have to work on it, since it's based on levels. Each level gains you access to better vehicles.
The music fits well with the atmosphere of the game. It really does make you feel like your in a post apocalyptic world when your just walking around.
The story isn't that interesting, but if RPG combined with FPS are what you like then, there's no reason not to pick up "Rage."
