Is there a way to be someone's friend and boss at the same time?

The third episode begins with Deborah's suiting up for her first day at work. The whole homicide department, in a way, revolves around her now. Masuka, Batista, Quinn, and Dexter all now report to Lt. Deborah Morgan.

Deborah has climbed high up the ladder, since we first saw her as an undercover hooker in the first episode. Not everyone is happy about her promotion and Deborah has to learn to deal with the politics involved with her new position.

The Serial Killer Duo has been nicknamed "The Doomsday Killers". They haven't been officially named that in the show yet, but an inside feature with the writers revealed their name.  All that has been revealed about the "Doomsday Killers" is that they're highly religious and genuinely think the world is coming to an end, a dangerous recipe.

Miami Homicide is looking for leads on the killers who stuff baby snakes into their victims, but their leads are leading nowhere. The "Doomsday Killers" have even eluded Dexter's radar.

"The Doomsday Killers" have taken a different approach in this episode. They handcuff a man to the floor of an abandoned, run-downed church. He's trapped, and his captors are telling him to accept God. It's unclear what they'll do, once the victim accepts what they ask of him.

Dexter monologues, "When you're Harrison's age everything is important. Everything has meaning, even a piece of moldy plastic. "

Dexter's father and son, both named Harrison, are pulling him into different directions. The name, Harrison, represent Dexter's past, present, and future. Will Dexter fall victim to his "dark passenger", or will he become a good shepherd like Brother Sam suggests?

It looks like Dexter is going to have a lot of car problems this season. Dexter is intuitively attracted to Brother Sam and his auto body shop. Dexter clings to many voices of reason, and Brother Sam tries to get Dexter to go to church get-together. Dexter doesn't understand the appeal.

Brother Sam asks, "What you afraid you gonna' catch something?"

Dexter stalks an elderly man he suspects may be "The Tooth Fairy" serial killer.  "The Tooth Fairy" has been on Dexter's list since high school, and he's the example of what happens to long-term serial killers. Dexter discovers "The Tooth Fairy" killer lives a depressingly alone life.

"We all want life to have some kind of meaning. Seems like the older we get, the harder we look for it. "

At the end of the episode something profound happens to Dexter. His blood slides fall out of his hand, and they lose their order. He can't tell which blood slide belongs to who anymore. Dexter lost his order, and how will he gain it back?
