A 21-year-old female driving the wrong-way on the 91 freeway caused a two car crash early Monday morning, resulting in two deaths and injuring two others in a family from San Bernadino.

According to a California Highway Patrol report, driver Jessica Shekell, of Fullerton, was headed westbound in the eastbound Fast Trak Express Lane in her 2003 Toyota Tacoma. A short time after 3 a.m., Shekell crashed head-on into a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado near Lakeview Avenue.

Authorities pronounced the Silverado’s driver, Sally Miguel, 44, dead at the scene. Front seat passenger Patricia Miguel, 30, died shortly after being transported to the Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

Miguel had her two nieces in the back, ages 15 and 11. With injuries listed as major, the 11-year-old was taken to Western Medical Center while her sister was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange with moderate injuries.

CHP reports Shekell was the only one wearing a seatbelt out of the five people involved in the accident.

Shekell was taken to UCI Medical Center with injuries listed as major.

While the accident is still under investigation, CHP officer Denise Quesada says Shekell faces charges of driving under the influence.

Shekell is a first-year transfer student at California State University of Fullerton, majoring in sociology.
