Chain Reaction was alive with the sounds of "Against All Hope" on Sunday. The five-piece band from Santa Fe Springs opened up the show at the popular Anaheim venue to a crowd of 25 people, which had grown to 35 by the end of their set. Their music caught the crowd's attention and brought hardcore dancers to the floor.

Against All Hope is: Tim: Guitar Joe: Bass Danny: Drums Abe: Vocals Rob: Guitar

TH: How did you guys meet?
Tim: Me and Joe started the band and we've known Danny since middle school.
Joe: We all went to the same high school, so we all know each other from there.

TH: Where did the name "Against All Hope" come from?
Danny: Abe thought it up.
Abe: [Danny] wanted "A New Hope"
Rob: From "Star Wars?"
Abe: Yeah, but our friend's band is already named "Tiefighter" and that would be too much "Star Wars." I wanted "Against All Laws," but that was taken so we went with "Against All Hope."

TH: What genre would you put yourselves into?
Tim: Hardcore Punk Abe: Country
Rob: With a hint of melodic-ness, you always have to throw that in there. Every band wants to be melodic
Abe: Yeah and a little Pit Bull.

TH: What are some of the bands that have influenced you?
Rob: More to Pride
Tim: Thrice
Danny: With Honor, Blink, Refused

TH: How do you approach the writing process when it comes to new songs?
Abe: I write new lyrics to all the songs everyday because I don't like them.
Joe: He re-writes all the songs every week.
Rob:We just kind of mess around with things and then put them together.
Abe: I write the lyrics and Rob helps me put it together, it's sort of experimental stage right now.
Rob:We don't really have a set "thing" yet, we don't want to throw anything in there, but we don't want to leave any important influences out either.

TH: Is there a message behind your music?
Abe: It's just about friends, back stabbers, chicks, everything. Rob: Life as a Santa Fe Springs boy. [laughs]

TH: Do you want music to be a career or is this more of a hobby?
Rob:Well if you have a band that is successful it's gonna turn into a career, but the intentions of our band, I can confidently say, it's that we just want to have fun.
Joe: Like girls [laughs].
