Festival Celebrates Diversity

School event unites and enlightens students.

The A.S, ICC, and Student Affairs celebrated another year of culture and ethnicity, uniting students across campus through the annual Festival of Diversity.

Clubs that participated include M.E.C.H.A, Alpha Gamma Sigma, Trendsetters, The Vietnamese Club, Phi Theta Kappa, El Club De Espanol, International Club, M.E.S.A, and The Ballroom Dance Club. Organizations include the Cadena Transfer Center, Financial Aid, Campus Safety, and the Health Center.

Flags were elegantly displayed from 40 countries across the globe, and free pasta meals were given away to students regardless of whether or not they purchased an A.S. benefits sticker.

"The Festival of Diversity is a wonderful event to bring to this campus," said AGS Representative Alison LeBlanc.
"Through this event, people are able to understand the different aspects of their cultures."

Unique entertainment was also provided from different campus organizations. The Fashion Department performed a runway show displaying the latest trends, along with Trendsetters, who performed their choreographed dance. The highlight of the morning seemed to be the performance by the Afro-Caribbean class, who impressed the crowd with their talent.

El Club de Espanol celebrated "Kermes," a traditional Mexican fiesta, handing out candy and marrying students for fun.
The ESL Department translated names in different languages including Spanish and Arabic, and Cosmetology students performed free haircuts and manicures throughout the morning.

 This year, the Health Department spread awareness of mental health. Their booth contained various pamphlets regarding stress and alcoholism, and the volunteers counseled students on the importance of maintaining a normal stress level
A competition was held for best booth for the clubs and departments.

ESL took first place for the best department booth. As for clubs, Vietnamese club earned first place, receiving $50 for their organization's budget. At the end of the event, a Unity pool was held, where each club competed in tug-of-war.

Trendsetters gave an outstanding performance, and won the event. Overall, the Festival of Diversity and provided a cultural bond for the students of FC.
