Fullerton College, after the loss of last years undefeated coach Deter Horton has found its new Men's Basketball coach, Robert Schermerhorn.
Schermerhorn was the head coach at Riverside Community College from 1989-1998. Where he had lead the Tigers to the California State Playoffs nine years in a row.
He was also a California Community College hall of fame inductee.
"With all of his experience and know how he will bring us a winning program," said Fullerton College sports information director Phil Thurman.
Schermerhorn who received the Coach of the year award back in '96 has some big shoes to fill as he takes over the head basketball position. Horton's Hornets went undefeated and brought home the state championship title.
The real question is, how well will Schermerhorn do taking over after an undefeated season?
Going into any new school with a failing basketball program would be an easy transition, though Schermerhorn finds himself coming into not only a winning program, but also an undefeated program, and championship programs as of last semester.
Schermerhorn does have an impressive track record with Riverside Community College with three CCC final four finishes in '93, '94, and '96, and a final eight finish in the CCC in '95.
Along with back to back Orange Empire Conference Championships in '94 and '95. So he has proven that he has the track record to bring home back to back championships for.
Even if Schermerhorn could bring home the championship this coming season he would have done nothing more then the exact same as Horton.
If he fails to bring the championship home we will know it is not due to our players who had no problems doing the same feat this season, but to a coach who is not able to escape the shadow of his predecessor.
