The Fullerton Market, with free admittance, is put on by the joined forces of the Fullerton Museum and the Fullerton Parks and Recreation organization. The market has been running every Thursday during the summer at the Downtown Plaza for the last 14 years. The goal of the market is simply to let family and friends come together and experience the different aspects of life as one.
Different activities are put on for the entire family to enjoy as a group as well as activities specifically for adults and kids alike.
One main attraction holds the attention of the crowd as the people of Fullerton converge on Wilshire Ave. This attraction is the bands that play every week. A different band is chosen each week to play at the market, the latest being Bubba and the Big Bad Blues.
The genre of the different bands vary from week to week and each band plays a variety of songs; some of which adults know and love and some are different variations of kid classics such as "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Overall, anyone who comes to the market will enjoy the variety of music provided throughout the summer.
Any band is allowed to submit an demo CD as well as a press packet, but the staff tries to pick bands that are family oriented for the Fullerton Market and save the others for events that are specifically geared towards teenagers. To be fair in the selection process, the staff of the Fullerton Market listens to every demo CD and checks the references for all bands. Split will be playing at the next market on Thursday September 7, 2006.
Other attractions that the family can enjoy together are the different booths set up by local organizations, companies, and farmers, the "circle of water," Family Art Night, the museum, train rides, a petting zoo, and the jungle gym.
Many different vendors set up shop at the Fullerton Market in hopes of bringing in more customers and too have a great time in the open air of the market. There are all types of vendors from Palm Readers and jewelry makers to produce vendors and homemade breads.
