Newly hired Health Director Chris Kiger was hired in June immediately after her 10 year career as head nurse at Orange Coast College. Kiger has a nursing background and nearly 30 years experience in Health services. Kiger is using her experience to assure that students at Fullerton are not only healthy, but pursuing their education. Her desire to contribute to Fullerton College not only landed her the position, but is allowing her to undertake student needs for Health service costs and confidentiality.
"I have a good grasp of what student's need, as far as health services are concerned," said Kiger. Students that visit the Health Center know that confidentiality is their main concern, no matter what apparent health issues may arise.
Kiger hopes to be respected among her staff, so all will know that student's files are to remain
confidential between doctor and patients.
With Psychology hours becoming immediately occupied, and stop smoking programs being offered to students with nicotine addictions, Kiger understands that Fullerton is the institution where students need to be respected in terms of their health privacy issues.
Aside from privacy issues, Kiger feels strongly that student's needs must be understood and met within a proportioned budget. Upon enrollment, every student is charged a $14 fee for the utilization of Health services. According to Kiger, some students offer complaints about such costs for Health Center visits that exceed necessary enrollment charges. However, Fullerton College students can not only utilize the Health
services department, but they can benefit tremendously from otherwise costly visits with a family physician.
Benefits are not only of a financial aspect, but also condone medical and psychological treatment and counseling. With Kiger's fellow doctors, nurses, and on site psychologists, students enrolled at Fullerton College can utilize aid where they can pursue a greater level of well being at costs that are comparatively minimal to the charges of family physicians.
According to Kiger, Fullerton College is an educational institution that not only offers opportunity, but aids students in personal achievement through the health services provided by FC.
Pertaining to student needs, low health fees and the ideal confidentiality policy agreement is what students seek in a health service. Health care is a highly regarded service that doesn't provide for educational advancement, but does ensure the health and well being of students who
attend FC.
"I heard great things about Fullerton College,
and I felt a need to contribute," said Kiger. Kiger's experience will not only be beneficial to students who are in need of health care, but her desire to aid students in Health care will be more than the necessary contribution. "I am absolutely loving it," said Kiger.
