The Fullerton volleyball team racked up 622 miles on the odometer of their team bus last week wrapping up a three game road trip in four days.
First, the team traveled to San Marcos to take on Palomar, then on to Santa Barbara facing the Vaqueros, and wrapped up the trip at San Luis Obispo to take on Cuesta.
The long miles did not seem to faze the Hornets as they defeated Cuesta Saturday night (30-25, 30-14, 30-25). The serve was a key point for the success Fullerton had on the road trip.
"We were able to serve tough and put them on their heels," said Fullerton coach Eddie Rapp. "It allowed us to strengthen our
transition game, which allows our middle attackers to get involved."
Two freshmen had big games against Cuesta. Outside hitter Rochelle Wylie had 4 serve aces, as well as 13 digs, and outside hitter Nicole Coffer had 9 kills.
On Friday Fullerton played Santa Barbara much the same way and had a similar out come beating the Vaqueros (30-17, 30-23, 30-24).
"We did the same things against Cuesta as we did against Santa Barbara," Rapp said. "Same type of team."
The hornets had 13 total aces in the game, and freshmen outside hitter Jena Curry stepped it up with 19 digs, as well as with her passing ability.
"We established offense through ball control and Jena passed well for us." Rapp said.
Hornets made a sweep of the road trip by knocking off Palomar Wednesday (30-15, 30-25, 23-30, 30-16). After starting the season off with a loss the Hornets have come off with three wins in a row.
Fullerton is on a two game home stand this week, Wednesday against Pasadena and Friday with Citrus. "We match up well against Pasadena," Rapp said. "Citrus will be a challenge for us, they are a state contender."
