Sunday night might not seem like a popular night to go out and dance the night away, but in Downtown Fullerton there is an exception.
The Kettle and the Keg Lounge and Patio Bar is a popular restaurant that resides at 136 West Wilshire Avenue and is owned by Jacob and Belle Mercado. The popularity of the restaurant comes from the relaxed environment that shows from the inside out.
Inside the restaurant is a plush green couch that allows customers to sit in a circle and talk in a setting that condones privacy. Kettle also houses a pool table that gives the atmosphere a very living room type setting.
Outside is a huge patio that makes it different than most of the other restaurants in town. During the week, movies are played silently against their wall to add a hipness that other places lack.
Kettle has options that are rare and unique to the community. It is a restaurant as well as a hookah bar, the only one in the city. Hookah is flavored tobacco that comes in 21 unique flavors and is smoked out of a water pipe.
Their menu consists of appetizers, sandwiches and desserts. The prices are all under $10 which makes the menu affordable to the general public.
The bar only serves beer and wine: Fat Tire is a crowd favorite. This aspect also brings a more mellow environment compared to the neighboring bars that surround Kettle.
Every Sunday is reggae night at this establishment. Full Watts and Chosen Few Children are the bands that take turns rotating. These are very popular bands in the reggae community. Reggae is a popular music genre for college age students and one can see by that by the crowds that flock faithfully every Sunday.
Saturday night, more traditionally popular, has been giving Sunday competition by the all girl hip hop deejays that spinthere. This is a delight, being that hip hop clubs did not have many venues for fans to attend.
Jordan Reabold, 21 stated, "Kettle is amazing place that is a perfect place to chill." Reabold is not the only person to say that. The crowd seemed to speak adulations to the events.
Kettle also participates in other activities such as karaoke. All summer long the singers can purchase their recordings for $5 and all proceeds go to benefit the American Heart Association.
The Mercados like to make everyone feel at home. "We like to get to know all our customers," the Mercados stated. This past August, Kettle held their first Customer Appreciation Day which included free food to all who came.
