If you are a student shopper, who happens to be on a tight budget, Goodwill might be just the place for you. Not only do they offer clothes, books, computers and more at affordable prices, but they help the local and global communities as well.
Goodwill Industries International Incorporated is one of the biggest non-profit organizations in the world, with locations in every state as well as in countries across the globe.
According to Goodwill, they provide education, training and career services for people with disadvantages like homelessness, lack of education or work experience and welfare dependency. The company also employ people with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. Goodwill also trains and contracts individuals to work for local companies. In 2005 Goodwill placed 129,899 people into competitive employment positions.
According to Goodwill.org: "We believe that work has the power to transform lives by building self-confidence, independence, creativity, and friendships. Everyone deserves a chance to have these. Goodwill provides that chance."
Lately, as vintage style has become increasingly popular, more and more students are finding these stores a useful resource. They offer all of their clothes at affordable prices, which is helpful for many students. Goodwill also offers computers and other electronics, which are often necessary for the student lifestyle as well.
Many students will go to Goodwill this month to check out the Halloween section, which includes costumes, make-up and scary props. There are two locations in Fullerton (464 Commonwealth Ave. and 2430 Chapman Ave.) as well as locations in Anaheim, Brea and Santa Ana.
Josie Baca, of Santa Ana, is the Store Manager at the Commonwealth location. Baca stated she thoroughly enjoys working for the companies because they employ hard working people, offer good benefits and they are an all around good company. According to Baca, student shoppers are as common at the store as are returning customers.
