The Lady Hornets Soccer got back on the winning track last Friday, as they defeated their conference rival the Irvine Valley Lasers 4-0.
Fullerton improved their overall record to 2- 3 and their OEC record to 1-1, while the Lasers are now 0-6, 0-2 on the season.
The Lasers are fielding a team for the first time since 2001. The school couldn't field a team because of lack of players. The school actually had to forfeit their first four games of this season. But Head coach Simon Davies thinks that the program is here to stay.
"Our school is committed to the women's program," said Davies. "We will get a team out, and do as well as we can, then just build from there."
Monique Moreira had two goals for Fullerton. Jessica Castillo and Amanda Phillips each added one. Phillips also had an assist.
Before the game, the Hornets were outscored 10-0 in their last two games against Moorpark and Cypress.
Irvine Valley's offense was non-existent as the Hornets defense never let the Lasers offense infiltrate their zone. The only scoring chance they had was when Nora Garcia's shot went over goal-keeper Antonia Hinojos head and out bounds.
Hinojos and Fullerton's other goal-keeper Emily Tielrooy both played, and each had a fairly easy day.
One thing that Hornets need to work on for their next game against Saddleback is their discipline. Moreia and Phillips both picked up yellow cards in the second half. Fullerton travels to Saddleback in a pivotal OEC game on Friday at 3 p.m.
