Fullerton College Men's Water Polo Team dominated in their previous game against Chapman last Wednesday with a 20-6 lead. The team showed great improvement as their performance has consistently increased throughout the progression of the season.
Once again, the shining players were Captain Matt Morrison, Steven Shrader, Charlie Gallagher, and Goalie Mike Haymer. Quick, explosive moves toward the goal gave Fullerton the ability to own the water; for now anyways. The second half of the game showed the teams ability to step up as individual players, they scored 4 goals in the third period and 11 in the fourth.
Backhands were a popular attempt in this game and almost always worked.
However, backhands were not the only contribution to the men's victory over Chapman. The team showed that they could break away from their defenders and through great driving, they were able to create many opportunities for themselves.
The teams offensive play, however, seems to be stronger than their defensive play which creates some concern.
Even after this match, the men seem to still have a great deal of practice in need. There seemed to be confusion in the playing field in regards to positions. At times there was either double sets or competition among the players themselves.
Although Fullerton led in goals, the match was very aggressive and they also led in personal exclusions. This could be dangerous on their part later on in the season.
