Last Saturday, the sixth annual Inland Invasion rocked the Hyundai Pavilion in Devore, California. With a very heavy metal/hard rock themed lineup, KROQ, the concert's sponsor, was taking a risk. The radio station formed a lineup that was quite unlike its usual alternative rock programming.

Rise Against, fresh from five sold out shows at the Troubadour, was the first fan-favorite band of the day. Although Buckcherry, the band that performed before them, received quite a lot of applause for their sex-drenched lyrics in the song "Crazy Bitch," that song seemed to be the only one the audience actually knew.

On the other hand, quite a few members in the audience seemed to know Rise Against's lyrics. When they played the first few notes to their current single, "Ready To Fall," those who were not already singing along joined in, probably due to the song's heavy rotation on KROQ. Overall, the band seemed excited to be playing and it reflected in their performance.

The next group on the bill was 30 Seconds To Mars. They took an unorthodox approach in actually getting to the stage. The band, along with 20 or 30 fans, marched all the way to the stage from the lodge section. The group was evenly split, with one side carrying a red flag, the other carrying a white flag. Finally after all the fanfare, Jared Leto, the guy who broke Claire Danes' heart in "My So-Called Life," took off the mask he was wearing, and almost every female in the audience began screaming their lungs out.

The music itself was pretty good, and was filled with distortion and keyboards. If the band was fronted by anyone else, however, one wonders if they would have received the same amount of attention or applause.

Papa Roach was next, and the band fit in quite well with the overall musical approach the concert was taking. Since this band isn't new to very many, when they played one of their hits, the audience, which at this time filled about two-thirds of the venue, knew all the lyrics and sang them back to the band.
