SoCal Jazz Scene Invades Brea
Festival on Birch Street mixes old with new for its turn in 2007.

The 2007 edition of the Brea Jazz Festival began last Friday with a highly jazzy ambiance. This free admission festival has become famous as many well known jazz figures and bands went onstage to bewitch visitors.
The Brea Jazz Festival is a four-week concert series held at the Birch Street Promenade in Brea. The Birch Street Promenade is easy to find, it is located at Birch St. and Brea Blvd. in Brea. The festival will take place on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. from now until Sept. 29.
The Jazz Festival is a great way for everyone to enjoy jazz music, from those who are crazy about it and also for anyone who wants to learn more. The Brea Jazz Festival is a great way to discover or rediscover all kinds and styles of jazz music.
The opening evening on last Friday was perfect, as the weather was just as wonderful as the music.
To kick the festival off in style, The Gerry Rothschild Quartet played a wide range of classic jazz songs, including works of Frank Sinatra, The Mills Brothers, Duke Ellington and more. On Saturday night, the singer, composer and songwriter Jessica Callahan set fire to the audience with her powerful voice and transmitted her passion for music to everyone.
Over the next the three weekends, Brea will be plunged into an extremely jazzy atmosphere. Friday, Sept. 14 come see the Grammy award-winner Scott Martin and The Latin Soul Band. Then, Sept. 15 Reno Jones will be headlining and reviving famous R&B and blues artists like Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Junior Wells and Johnny "Guitar" Watson.
Besides the concert, many other activities are organized on the Birch Street Promenade to entertain visitors. Those who want to dance or just listen to the music should go to the Main Stage which is located at the east end of Birch Street Promenade. Beware that the seats are free but limited so make sure you arrive early, or you can always bring your own lawn chair.
For those who may get hungry, The Festival Dining offers a large number of dining options for visitors. Guests can choose to eat something fast while enjoying the music, or to have a nice dinner outside on the patio while they are serenaded.
