The new classroom/office building opening in Spring 2008 will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

In 2005 and 2006, construction began on several new projects, including a new College Center, classroom and office building, and the tri-level parking structure on the west side of campus.

The College Center is scheduled to open on October 13. It will house a student activity center, a 400-seat dining hall, the Cadena Transfer Center, and the International Student Center.

"The new College Center is going to change student life for the better," said Janet Portolan, Vice President of Educational Support.

Following the College Center's unveiling will be the new classroom and office building in the old staff parking lot. In addition to housing the Social Sciences division, it will contain state-of-the-art classroom and office facilities. It's scheduled to open May 2008.

"Improvements to campus classroom and office buildings will give students and faculty more efficient instructional facilities and better technology to accommodate their needs," explained Portolan.

Once approved, the 400 building will be demolished and rebuilt where it stands. Offices and scheduled classes will be relocated. Portolan's proposed solution to the 400 building relocation is a modular building complex nicknamed the Science Village.

This "swing space" is currently undergoing construction in the parking lot south of the Admissions and Records Office and will remain there until the new building is complete. Portolan is expecting the relocation to occur next June and July.

Future projects to be completed are a new pool and major renovation of the football field and gymnasium. In addition, the current 700 and 900 buildings will be demolished and rebuilt where they stand. The 700 building will also house a technology center.

Virtually every building on campus will be updated if not completely rebuilt within the next few years. Portolan encourages students to support the construction of these projects, to be patient, avoid listening to construction rumors and not to complain about walking a few extra feet to get to class.
