Convincing most college students that reading is not all that bad can be challenging, but Stephanie Piazza has been working hard to help her students enjoy the real benefits of reading.

"One of my big goals for my students is to get them to love reading," said Piazza.

As a recent graduate from Cal State Fullerton, Piazza is so pleased to have made it this far so early in her career. She grauduated with a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Master's in Reading. Her internship landed her at Fullerton College, where she got hired as an instructor after graduating December 2005.

"[Working at Fullerton College] is a great opportunity that I didn't see coming and I'm really glad to have" Piazza said.

Piazza was born and raised in Orange County and loves to travel. She has visited Cambodia, Thailand, has been all over Europe and the Caribbean.

"I like to experience other cultures, people, and how they live their lives," said Piazza.

Her favorite place so far has been Thailand. She enjoyed the culture there and described the people as very hospitable. She learned to scuba dive in Thailand and it is now one of her favorite things to do.
However Piazza's intersts extend farther than travel and scuba. She has many goals for her future. She would really like to be fluent in Spanish.

"I'd like to be able to learn Spanish and be fluent. Then if I get that far I'd like to get my Master's in Spanish" Piazza said. "There is so much literature out there that I can't read because it is not in my language."

Although she acknowledges that there are plenty of books that get translated, there are more books that are not and Piazza feels as though she is missing out on great literature from other languages.

After realizing the constant struggle college students have with reading, Piazza immediately realized that she wanted to help by becoming a reading instructor. She is passionate about helping students and would like to instill a deeper appreciation for literature. Her hope is for her students to eventually come to enjoy reading as much as she does.
