Cosmetology Offers Students More Than a Haircut
Trendsetters are visible all over campus and show their skills daily.

These students have the passion, the talent and the determination to succeed in the world of aesthetics.
Whether it's hair, make-up, skin care or nails, these students work with clients to make them feel beautiful and satisfy their needs.
Course information about the cosmetology program states that the department "offers students a greater competitive advantage in today's beauty industry."
The Trendsetters can be easily identified at any time on campus, with the majority of them having a chic hairstyle and wearing their matching black t-shirts. Members of the Trendsetters Club are very involved on campus, and the Inter-Club Council has recognized them multiple times as the "Club of the Year."
The career opportunities for students looking into cosmetology are endless and available students with an eye for beauty and who have the passion to pursue it.
"Fullerton College has a 98% passing rate of the State Board Licensures," said Cosmetology instructor Connie Lopez.
This passing rate is proof that the chances of success are extremely high for students who are graduates from the?Cosmetology department.
Students in the Cosmetology department are studying to become stylists, estheticians, hair color specialists, skin care therapists, make-up artists, hair/skin chemistry specialists, manufacturer's representatives and even specialists in salon design.
"[Students] should be prepared to work hard, have fun and [have] a great career after they leave and have been taught," said Vita Lane, one of the many instructors for the program.
When students leave the program, they are ready to take on whatever comes their way.
These students have had the advantage of receiving their Associate of Science Degree in Cosmetology, and are eligible to not only take the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology State Licensing Exam, but they can also obtain their vocational certification.
"Day students are in class for 8 hours each day and evening students are in class for 4.75 hours each evening," Lopez said. "Students simulate a salon environment by practicing their work on mannequins and developing a clientele."
The Trendsetters get hands-on training not only with mannequin heads, but also with real clients. They have plenty of customers going their way in need of a haircut, manicure, or even some specialized skin treatments.
The prices vary for all of the different services that are offered by the Cosmetology department. Some of the services they offer include a haircut, shampoo and a blow-dry. Tinting and bleaching can be done as well, and even a custom color or weave.
Visitors can even get a manicure or a pedicure if they choose.
The best way to enjoy the services of the Cosmetology department is to walk-in on a Thursday or a Friday.
The department accepts appointments for all clients, but it is not necessary for anyone.
The Trendsetters offer affordable services to the pubic and really appear to enjoy what they do each day.
The Cosmetology program also offers many different certifications. There are certificates available for Cosmetology and Esthetics, in addition to many others. The cosmetology certificate is awarded to students who complete 1600 hours (55 units) of classes. With the help of summer session courses, students can complete the certificate in one year.
The estheticians certificate is awarded to those who complete 600 hours (20 units) and students can complete the program in one semester.In fact, the Cosmetology department also offers class opportunities to current stylists, and for anyone who has an interest in becoming an instructor of cosmetology.
The Pivot Point Instruction certificate is designed for licensed cosmetologists and potential instructors and requires 96 hours (3 units). They also offer an instructional technique certificate that requires 600-hours of class work.
The Cosmetology department additionally offers license renewals for students and non-students alike, with the Continuing Education in Instructional Techniques certificate.
The Trendsetters are a group of students that thrive on letting their creativity flow, and it allows them to create new things that may someday become a trend.
Although these students are still learning, they really seem to be ahead of the game when it comes to satisfying each and every one of their clients.
There are opportunities for everyone that wants to further their career in the beauty department, and even for those who want to just enjoy the benefits of having such a great program on campus.
