Although this may be Kimberly Orlijan's first semester teaching at Fullerton College, she already has her goals set on helping her students become better critical thinkers.

Orlijan attended U.C. Riverside where she earned her bachelor's degree, master's and doctorate in English. She minored in Women's Studies and specialized in the writings of Sylvia Path, 20th Centuty American literature, Women's Literature and Food/Consumption in literature and culture.

She strongly believes that being a critical thinker is "essential to being a strong and engaged thinker, student and citizen," Orlijan said. It is always rewarding for teachers to know that they have made a difference in student lives.

"If [students improve their thinking skills], their reading and writing skills will improve," Orlijan said. As a literature and composition instructor, this is one of her primary goals.

For someone fairly new to the FC staff, she has set strong goals to get her students thinking on their feet and become better additions to society.
