With yet another victory, the men's soccer team is still undefeated. Friday's game against Pasadena ended with a victory of 2-1. Even though Pasadena seemed dominant for the first few minutes, Fullerton(4-0-2) was able to pull through and conquer their opponents.
One of the star players in the game was forward Takuya Endo who scored a goal in the 12th minute. Andres Morillon was frequently able to steal the ball from Pasadena, and helped keep the game in Fullerton's favor.
Despite getting knocked down minutes before, Jose Preciado was able to make Fullerton's second and final goal. Astonishment passed through the crowd when goalkeeper Cesar Ortega was challenged by an opposing player and they both went down hard.
Despite this, Fullerton's Head Coach Scott Giles was especially pleased with his goalkeeper's game. "Eddie (Gutierrez) had phenomenal saves," Giles said about the saves in the second half of the game.
After half-time was when things really started to heat up. Eight yellow cards were given out with four going to players from Fullerton, while Pasadena had five in total (one from the first half). Forward Andrew Garcia was the first of the Hornets to get a yellow card. Then defender Luis Chable was given a yellow card for obstruction. After late tackles, forward Julio Melgoza and defender Jose Castor were given yellow cards.
Hornet fans were excited after a goal was made by Pasadena and then disallowed because of offsides. The referee was then heckled by Pasadena fans and players, which led to a yellow card given to the offending player.
Giles was pleased with the results of the game. "The boys stayed in there⦠they were strong and played a solid defense" Giles said.
Pasadena was a big team, literally. The players were tall and fast and it was a very physical game.
After this successful game, Giles said he was "looking forward to the [upcoming conference] game against Santa Ana," who is Fullerton's biggest rival. The game takes place on Tuesday, September 25.
On Friday, the Hornets go against Victor Valley for the last non-conference game of the season.
