Anne-Marie Tahramanis had a goal and assist to lead Chaffey
College past the Hornets 3-1 in a non-conference game at Fullerton Thursday. Kimmi Walsh scored her third goal of the season for Fullerton (1-5-1, 1-1-1).

Pressure was the key for the Panthers (7-1-1), who kept the ball in the Fullerton side of the field for much of the second half.

Eventually, the Hornet defense relented and Chaffey had their seventh win in 9 games. Walsh's goal off a Jori King assist put the Hornets up 1-0 in the first half.

The Panthers battled back, with Brandy Patterson poking the ball past Fullerton goalie Briana Magana to even the score on a rebound from a free kick.

Magana would keep the game tied at 1 with a crucial save of a
Panther penalty shot after a foul by Hornet defender Kim Figueroa. The freshman keeper was forced to leave the game at halftime due to injury.

After some close calls, Chaffey went ahead on a Kristin Johnson goal before Tahrmanis added an insurance goal for the Panthers.

Alison Sheehy, Magana's replacement, played well but the consistent Chaffey pressure earned them the victory.

Missed opportunities was the story in the Hornets 0-1 loss to
Saddleback in their Orange Empire Conference game at Fullerton last Tuesday. Despite earning a number of good chances, the Hornets couldn't score and mustered only 3 shots on goal.

"We certainly need to work on finishing the chances we get in front of the net," said Fullerton coach Pamela Lewin after the match.

Gaucho forward Ashley Novak netted the game-winner in the
second half after a well-placed pass from Ashlyan Rodriguez.
It was a tough loss for Fullerton. The Hornets played one of their better games of the season, showing improved passing and receiving some solid goalkeeping from Magana. They just couldn't get the ball on net.

Neither team was dominant in a quick-paced first half. Hornet midfielder Lindsay Valero was unlucky on a free kick. The ball smacked off the crossbar.

Saddleback (4-3, 2-1) was the stronger side in the latter 45
minutes, with Novak's goal being sufficient for a Gaucho victory. Kimmi Walsh had the last good chance for the Hornets near the end of the game, but the shot sailed over the Gaucho crossbar.

The Hornets next test will come against Orange Empire Conference foes. They will play the Golden West Rustlers (1-7-0, 1-3-0) at Fullerton College on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Fullerton will have the weekend off and then hit the road to
face off against the Irvine Valley Lasers (0-7-0, 0-3-0) on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

The Hornets are curently rated No. 4 in the OEC. The are ahead with goals, but are essentially tied in points with the Orange Coast Pirates, the Riverside Tigers, and the Santa Ana Dons.
