The men's soccer team defeated Victor Valley on Friday 1-0. The Rams (2-7-2) only managed 6 shots on goal and Cesar Ortega stopped all of them during the 90-minute game.
Andy Garcia had the lone goal for the Hornets (5-1-2). He is leading the team with 4 goals and 1 assist.
"We've had good days of practice," said Fullerton Head Coach Scott Giles, before last Friday's game against Victor Valley.
The result of the game against Southwestern (2-1-3) on Tuesday was a surprise to everyone involved.
The Hornets, expecting a victory, got pounded 4-0. Each goalkeeper played a half. Ortega surrendered 2 goals on 5 shots and Eduardo Gutierrez gave up 2 goals on 3 shots.
"We didn't come ready to play…we were overconfident," Giles said. "If we score first then that puts pressure on the opponent and makes it harder for them to score."
That was part of the strategy that the soccer team has used in their previous games. Giles said he was shocked and that it was embarrassing to lose to Southwestern.
He was sure that their winning streak would last throughout the game. One positive aspect of the game was that all the players who suited up had a chance to play against Southwestern.
The Hornets face their first conference game against the Santa Ana Dons on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
