Since 1937, the Workforce Center has been providing various services to students.

For more than 15 years, the Workforce Center has been holding job fairs on the quad.

Recently, job fairs have been held every semester instead of just once a year. According to Chrystal Van Beynen, the Workforce Center Coordinator, employer attendance has quadrupled in the last five years.

Van Beynen expects there to be around 80 to 85 employers at this semester's job fair, which is being held on Wednesday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the quad.

Employers include Sketchers, EZ Lube, Kaiser Permanente and many more. A complete list of employers for the job fair is available on the center's website.

Van Beynen recommends that students take advantage of the fair. There will be a wide variety of employers this semester and students should have no trouble finding a company that they like.

They should prepare by bringing a resume and preparing to talk to company personnel.

"One of the things that employers always tell us [after the job fair] is that students aren't prepared," Van Beynen said.

Students can receive help writing resumes, cover letters and going through mock interviews by visiting the Workforce Center.

A resume drawing will be held during the job fair. Students can submit a copy of their resume for a chance to win an assortment of gift cards.

"It's a really good opportunity [for students] to have 80 different employers on campus at the same time" Van Beynen said.

Job fairs are not the only service that the Workforce Center oversees. The center's Web site contains information and tips from employers to help students. They host workshops and distribute handouts with information about resumes, cover letters and interviews.

Future Workforce Center events include Career Development Day on November 7 where there will be employers, counselors and instructors on the quad available for students. This event will focus on informing students of different paths they can take with their majors.

During the spring semester, the center will host Resume Day, which will help students with resumes.
