The Lady Hornets came out charged, but the Pirates were more than willing to meet them on even ground. Orange Coast handed Fullerton its first lost to a Californian team and in the Orange Empire Conference.
Fullerton dominated Orange Coast in the first set 30-23. They answered every point, and blocked several shots at the net.
The match was easily the longest of the year.
The next two sets were very close. In the second set, Fullerton pulled within 2 points of Orange Coast, but the Pirates put it away 30-27. Set three was even more intense, with volleys that lasted extended amounts of time.
The Lady Hornets would dig a ball almost on the floor, set it, and return it for the kill, only to have the Pirates replicate the action and send it right back. Orange Coast finally pulled away and ended the set 33-31
In the final set it appeared that the Pirates had a little more energy in their tank than the Lady Hornets. Points and kills came easier against Fullerton and service errors took their toll. The Pirates ended the evening in the fourth set 30-22.
