The Hornets extended their unbeaten streak to 3 games with a 1-1 draw against Santa Ana Friday at Fullerton.

Midfielder Rachel Lopez scored her third goal of the season for the Hornets (3-6-2,
3-2-2), who currently reside in 4th place in the Orange Empire Conference standings with 11points. Santiago Canyon, the state's top ranked team, leads the conference with 24.

A late Jori King goal lifted the Hornets to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Irvine Valley College in a league game at Irvine last Tuesday.

With less than 10 minutes to go, King sealed the win for the Hornets with a rocket of a shot into the Lasers net.

It was the second score of the game for the freshman midfielder and her 3rd of the season. She's tied with Lopez for goals scored behind team leaders Amanda Phillips (6) and Kimmi Walsh (4).

"She makes a great contribution to the team," said Hornet Head Coach Pamela Lewin of King.Phillips broke the scoring deadlock in the 25th minute after Irvine goalie Lupe Jimenez erred on a clearance.

The Laser keeper failed to get a foot on an incoming ball, allowing Phillips to race past for an easy score and 1-0 Hornet lead. It was the only goal of a fairly even first half, with both teams applying pressure but Fullerton getting the better scoring chances.

The Lasers evened the score on a penalty in the 55th minute. Forward Taylor Niesteroy beat Fullerton keeper Allison Sheely far-post after defender Cecilia Barriga was flagged for a handball violation.

After King put the Hornets ahead, the Lasers fought back to even the game at 2. A nice run down the right wing set up pressure that led to a goal by forward Diana Suarez.

With the game up for grabs, King fired the game winner in the 83rd minute. The Lasers weren't able to do anything with a late corner kick, and the final whistle blew shortly after. Lewin said the team's performance was a mixed bag.

"I thought our overall play was a little sluggish but we turned it on when we needed to," she said. "The players felt the field was slow-they couldn't get going. We didn't look as sharp or as quick. I was really happy they stayed focused. Mentally, they stayed focused."

The Hornets will host Riverside (1-9-1, 1-5-1) this Friday at 3 p.m.
