Many colleges and universities sponsor social events through their Alumni Association,
and Fullerton College is no exception.
After the success of the event organized last year in collaboration with the Friends of the
Library, the Alumni Association is now presenting "Fullerton College at the Movies."
This year's movie features the famous silent film actor and director Buster Keaton in
"Steamboat Bill," on October 26.
The film will begin at 6 p.m. in the Wilshire Auditorium located on the Southeast corner of Chapman Avenue and Lemon Street.
In the style of cable film channel "Turner Classic Movies," the silent film presentation features opening and closing monologues to be performed by students Michael Woo and Amy Bloom, supervised by Professor Jay Goldstein.
These monologues will provide viewers details about the history of the movie, the stars
and the theme, as well as information on the Fox Theater, a Fullerton landmark.
FC at the Movies is an excellent opportunity for the Alumni Association to give FC students more information about its programs.
The Alumni Association at FC has a large role in inviting alumni from FC back to the college, and also encouraging students, staff and the community to come together throughout the year.
"Alumni are important and this event connects the community to the college by shooting the monologue at the Fox Theatre" said Academic Services Dean Carol Mattson. "It was also important to include FC students in the project as actors, filming crew and editors."
"Steamboat Bill" was released in 1928. It relates the story of a young man, Willie, who works as a steamboat captain trying to follow his father's footsteps despite a lot of things standing between them.
Willie's life becomes even more complicated when he falls in love with the daughter of his father's rival.
The diversity provided by "Steamboat Bill" is why the Alumni Association chose it in particular.
