The Cadena Transfer Center is aware of these links, and deals with the difficult task of helping students transfer to four-year schools, and helps with cultural events and awareness on campus.
Students at FC are welcomed to walk in whenever they desire to speak to an advisor or a counselor to be advised about what they need to do to transfer.
The advisors' responsibility is to recommend classes to students that will help them to transfer sooner assist if a student has problems with a transfer application and to provide solutions for any students who need financial aid.
Walk-in counseling can help Students plan out their semester, and also offers assistance for those applying to a four-year school. Students may also call the Transfer Center to schedule an appointment with a counselor for assistance.
In addition, for those transferring to a UC school or a private university, the Transfer
Center also offers development workshops to help students with ideas for writing their
personal statements.
These workshops also include tools for students to provide aid with math exams, time-management assistance, choosing a major and even self-esteem.
The Transfer Center can also schedule one-on-one appointments with representatives from prospective universities that students are considering transferring to. The Transfer center also hosts local university tours each semester, so that students can visit the university that they are considering transferring to.
A fee of $5 is charged for students who are interested in participating, and they will visit Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Long Beach.
Additionally, in the spring, the Transfer Center organizes a one-weekend tour in Northern California for $50.
The other principal focus of the Transfer Center is to promote diversity on campus, and
celebrate the different cultures that are represented at FC.
Already in 2007 the Transfer Center has hosted "Bienvenidos," a beginning of the year
event for Latino students.
The "Muslim in America" event on Thursday is an upcoming event this semester, with special guest host, Misreen Malhis. Malhis will discuss the challenges that many Muslims face as they attempt to live their lives in America today, including the problems that they face day to day.
