For many who are trying to learn to cook, the words "food processor" can be both confusing and heaven-sent. After all, if you don't know what it is, it sounds like a kitchen tool that was designed to make baby food. When you find out what a food processor does (slice, shred and grate food), you wonder how you've ever lived without one.

Many amateur cooks feel this way, and soon discover that a food processor is a purchase that they should never skip out on.

The Cuisinart Prep Express Handheld Food Processor is one such product. Priced at
$79.95, it is a very budget-friendly option for anyone.

Unlike other members of the food processor family, the Prep Express is handheld.
However, the base is flattened so that it can be used on the countertop as well.

The handheld option is fantastic though, especially if you are using it to make au gratin potatoes from scratch, you can shoot them straight into the pan, without worrying about cut fingers from trying to slice two pounds of potatoes by hand.

In addition to the handheld performance, the Prep Express has a retractable cord that will not get caught in any of your cabinets, which makes it extremely easy to store.

Tested on a number of different recipes, the food processor performed well.

The first was a recipe for a traditional French potato gratin. This dish was a great way to test out the Prep Express, because it utilized both the slicing and grating options of the dish.

With the aid of the slicing drum, the Prep Express literally went through two pounds of potatoes in about a minute and a half. If this does not encourage you to take a closer look, the grating drum dished up a pound of cheese perfectly grated in one minute. The prep time for the dish was cut in half, simply by eliminating the slicing and grating.

With the Prep Express, cooks will discover that a myriad of new cooking options are available.

Fancy French apple galettes (cakes) can be ready in 10 minutes with the aid of the Prep
Express.

Again, it eliminates the hassle of having to individually slice by hand several pounds of apples. By taking away the painstaking chore of slicing, many have discovered that cooking at home is not such a trial.

All of the removable parts of the Prep Express are dishwasher safe, which is another great bonus with this product.

Many people may be reluctant to purchase a product like this with an $80 price tag, but it is one of those splurges for the kitchen that you should not pass up.

When you stop to think about all of the time you will save, and how much easier cooking will be when you add this to your collection of tools, how can you refuse?

I would definitely need such a gadget but I am not totally convinced with its effectiveness... I never really thought about this option before and I think I need some more time to get used to the idea and see how other people handle it in the kitchen. (Continued…)
