Next semester, students and teachers will be familiarizing themselves with My Gateway, which is going live November 12.
My Gateway is a Web portal designed for students, faculty and staff to be able to access basic services at Fullerton College, as well as Cypress College, the School of Continuing Education and district headquarters at Anaheim. Faculty will be submitting Fall grades using My Gateway as well as students registering for their spring semester classes.

Access to My Gateway will be available as a link from the college Web site main page. First time users will be greeted by a video welcoming the user and giving instruction on how to login and navigate the page.

The new portal is designed to create one-stop shopping for students. They will be able to pay their bills and access the bookstore from the same Web site. It will also allow for greater networking among students and faculty. Staff members and faculty will be able to receive and send announcements, join staff groups, as well as maintain campus calendars of events. They would be informed of outreach activities in their department and possibly volunteer to participate.

Student organizations and groups will also be able to send announcements and make calendars.

"My gateway is dynamic because the information is being regularly updated and not sitting there statically," said Robert Jensen, member of the Luminus Portal steering committee. "Its interactive."

Teachers will be able to post their class syllabi, assignments, reminders and updates much like an online class. Admissions and Records will also provide announcements to remind students of registration coming up or if they have a counseling appointment.

"The hope is to create regular value in the portal for students to come back everyday and use it," Jensen said.

Other functions that are being experimented with are an application that allows students access to proof of enrollment, which they may need to provide employers and an application that highlights classes that fulfill IGETC requirements on transcripts.

"Like any portal, you'll be able to customize your own page and turn it into your own personal homepage," Jensen said. "You can get news, links to rate my professor, YouTube and MySpace. So its your point of origin for everything you want."
