Whether you are trying to lose weight or just stay healthy, exercising regularly is vital to your mental and physical well being, and should be incorporated into everyone's daily routine.

That being said, it is understood that fitting exercise into your busy college schedules is not always easy.

The good news is that recent research has shown that when it comes to working out, less is more.

Until recently, the workout believed to be best for fat loss was to do cardio as long as possible, such as running on the treadmill.

However, it has become evident to scientists that long cardio sessions at a steady pace are not optimal for burning fat because, after a certain amount of time, the body becomes aware that it is burning high amounts of calories and tries to conserve these calories as much as possible.

The end result is less calories burned and many confused why their waist line is not shrinking.

To avoid the traps of long, time consuming cardio sessions the best workouts to do are the high intensity interval trainin (HIIT).

These 15 to 20 minute workouts switch between intervals of high and low intensity.

This concept can be applied to any form of cardio such as running, swimming, biking or kickboxing.

Unlike low intensity workout sessions, your heart rate is up for the rest of the day after these HIIT workout which leads to continuous fat loss throughout the day, even though you spent less time working out.

HIIT workouts also prevent muscle loss because they are so much shorter and increase your maximal oxygen consumption levels.

With all of the benefits of these quick, fat- burning workouts, it is hard to make an excuse to not find 15 minutes in a day to get into some healthy living.
