Warming up in a crowded gym with very limited seating the Fullerton Hornets men's basketball team was facing their sister college, the Cypress Chargers.

The Hornets fell to 9-16 after their 85-73 loss to the Chargers last Wednesday night, which was their sixth consecutive loss.

After about a ten minute delay due to technical difficulties with the shot clock, and the crowd was restless the game was finally off.

Three failed attempts by Fullerton lead to Cypress making the first shot. Then with 18:02 to go on the clock freshmen Josh Manning put up a lay up and got the Hornets on the board.

When asked what went wrong, Manning said, "When it came down to it we were just out of it and lost it." Head Coach Andre Smith agreed, "We didn't play pretty good. Pretty good means that we defend and we don't give up 80 points."

At the start of the second half the Hornets came out very pumped up. Their attitude changed. There were times they were within four points. It looked like the game could go either way. Soon after the motivation wore off the distance between the scores grew larger.

Coach Smith said, "They never have communication, if they did we'd be winning. We're not a bad team we just lack motivation." Smith also said, " We don't know how to compete, that's what hurts us more than anything. If we knew how to do that we wouldn't be in the cellar right now."

The Hornets have an impressive line up. Freshman guard Serdana Wright averages 10.4 points a game, Sophomore forward Josh Rayne adds an average of 9.4 points a game and, Ayokunna Shofu, a freshman forward from Santa Monica averages 9.5 points a game and contributed with two dunks Wednesday night.

Fullerton had a bye on Friday. They needed the time to practice and take a small break from a very frustrating sport. Coach Smith said he was going to use the time to get away from this game, because it's driving him crazy. Josh Manning said he was going to use the time to practice. Fullerton hosts Riverside tonight at 7:30.
