Members of Fullerton College's theater department perform during a stage rehearsal of Frankenstein, one of two productions set to take center stage this fall.

With the beginning of a new semester the return of old routines and old habits set back into place. While most students are getting settled into new classes and classes are just starting to set a patter, one department is going full steam ahead into the new semester with quick progress.

The Theatre Department here at Fullerton College, ranked as one of the top theatre departments in the state, has quickly begun progress on the events of the fall. Within the department there are a wide variety of classes training students in the vast areas of Theatre Arts including acting, musical theatre, improvisation, and many different technical aspects from set building to costume design.

One unique event that takes place in this department are the "meet-an-greets" that take place where students get to hear from all the different theatre professors and also get to know one another. This creates a strong supportive, family-like, environment that is essential to the craft of theatre.

Although fun is a huge part of the department, hard work is a key to being involved. This is put into practice with auditions for the two big falls shows. These auditions took place the first week of the new semester, giving students little time to get adjusted.

The fall season for the theatre department includes two striking pieces of theatre. The first show of the season is the William Mittler adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic story Frankenstein. The dark, symbolic tales follows the life of Dr. Frankenstein and his quest to reanimate a corpse he created from the remains of dead people. When he is horrified by his creation the, the creature escapes and takes his own journey of pain and rejection in a superficial world.

Contrasting the darker nature of their first show, the second production of the season, Moliere's Scapino, will be sure to lighten the spirits. The story life is centered on two men who have found the love of their lives to the dissatisfaction of their fathers. The two men turn to the help of the great king of con men Scapino for assistance, which leads to crazy schemes and mayhem.

Frankenstein runs from October 13th through the 16th in the Campus Theater, while Scapino runs from November 10th through the 14th in the Bronwyn Dodson Theater. Tickets can be purchased at the campus box office or from any of the performers who are required to sell tickets.
